I graduated from Melbourne University with an additional Medical Science degree and achieved specialist recognition (MRACP) by examination in 1975. In the UK I completed accredited advance training in Diabetes/Endocrinology and Internal Medicine (MRCP UK), recognised fully in Australia. I returned to establish the first tertiary level Endocrinology Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 1980.

Accepting appointments by WHO and IDF (including plenary lectures and public health programs) and ongoing development of ICD classification in my specialty and NHMRC appointments including the Expert Panel in Diabetes. I was elected 4 times to the Executive of ADS where I was involved in the unification of Diabetes Australia (elected an Honorary Life Member) and initiated the NDSS.

I helped establish the Tasmanian Diabetes Register and subsequently was awarded FAFPHM. The State Government amongst other appointments, appointed me as Consultant/Author to evaluate options and strategies relevant to the re-accreditation at Tasmanian University Medical School amongst other appointments.

Arriving on the Gold Coast in 1994 to set up the first full-time private practice in that specialty and obtained visiting rights for the major private hospitals and was appointed Associate Professor at Bond and Griffith Universities.

​

Appointed a member of the Southern Queensland Community Corrections (Parole) Board in 1998, a member of the Aged Care Complaints Resolution Committee for the Commonwealth (2008) and to the Professional Services Review Committee (2012). I was elected Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology in 2012 in recognition of my services to that Specialty and an Honorary Life Fellow of RACP (2013).

In regard to diabetes management, I work closely with a “team” including a Nurse Educator with expertise in insulin pump programs (Debbie Foskett) and an Exercise Physiologist (Joel Wearn). I heavily promote ambulatory care with the least reliance on inpatient care. I was an early adoptor of TeleHealth.

​

I offer 24/7 telephone contact for urgent problems. I pride myself on my punctuality for appointments and my prompt response to GPs and other Specialist colleagues following patient attendances.

The practice provides quality patient care for assessment, management, monitoring and ongoing treatment of endocrine disorders. The Practice offers efficient medical reporting ensuring everyone involved in your health care is well informed. Professor Senator prides himself on providing good quality information to his patients and each consultation is very informative. Professor Senator maintains 24 hours access to his patients in times of urgent medical problems.
